Pembrokeshire Care Society are celebrating three exciting developments.

One of these was the receipt of a Food Poverty Grant which they have been putting to good use recently, since the charity was required to spend the money by March 18.

The grant, which the society received on February 13 from Pembrokeshire County Council, amounted to £26,000. It has enabled the provision of free hot meals at the Bucket Full of Hope Café in Dew Street, Haverfordwest and at the Third Place in Milford Haven.

The meals are available for clients who may have been homeless or are in food poverty. The society has also been delivering nutritious hot and cold meals to clients living in temporary accommodation.

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

In addition to this, Pembrokeshire Care Society recently received £19,980 from Postcode Community Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The Society’s Managing Director, Michael Hooper welcomed the funding boost as it will enable Pembrokeshire Care Society to provide mental health support for vulnerable people in crisis and offer preventative measures for self-harm and suicide prevention.

There is a proven link between poor mental health being a cause that leads to homelessness, as well as experiencing homelessness leading to poor mental health. The society aims to address both of these issues.

The funding will allow the Pembrokeshire Care Society to provide specialist support to those most vulnerable with mental health counsellors delivering up to six counselling sessions as a form of crisis intervention.

HOMESHARE PROJECT

The charity is delighted to have been selected to run a pilot Homeshare project in Wales. Homeshare organisations bring together people with spare rooms with people who are happy to chat and lend a hand around the house in return for affordable, sociable accommodation.

Pembrokeshire Care Society will receive £10,000 from Welsh Government and will be getting this exciting and much needed project operational very soon.
