Alun Richardson is photographer, writer and mountain guide, who specialises in taking photographs of, and writing about, the magnificent, extreme and wild places he visits.
He has been a member of Tenby and District Camera Club for three years and in this time has exhibited images in many of the competitions and also representing the club in the external competitions held in Wales.
In November last year, Alun gave a talk to members on his expedition to the base camp of Mount Everest in April where he took images of the Royal Gurkha Regiment at the beginning of their ascent of the largest mountain in the world.
Then the fateful ‘Gorkha Earthquake’ struck on April 25, 2015, with a magnitude of 8.1 on the Richter scale; thankfully Alun had left a week earlier. The expedition was named ‘Gurkha 200’ to celebrate their 200 years of loyal service to the British Crown.
Many of the team were at base camp when the earthquake hit and 22 people lost their lives when struck by the furious avalanche.
The G200 Everest team were the only team on Mount Everest on that fateful day not to lose any members; they are eternally grateful and are humbled by that fact. But, this is unfinished business and the same team, with one or two new additions, will now attempt to put the first serving Gurkha on the summit of Everest in 2017.
One of the new additions will be Alun Richardson, who has been appointed official photographer of the G200 Everest Expedition 2017 under the leadership of Major Andrew Todd (2 RGR).
The club is very proud of Alun and this opportunity to be with the Brigade of Gurkhas. He is wished all the very best and members look forward to seeing images of this expedition next year.
