CARDIGAN residents and business owners are being reminded about an upcoming public drop‑in session in the Castle’s Tower Room on Wednesday, May 13, giving the community another opportunity to view and comment on proposed tidal flood defences for the town.
Open between 1pm and 7pm, the drop‑in session is an opportunity to:
- View the plans and design drawings
- Speak directly with the project team
- Share feedback using comment cards
- Complete the short consultation survey
Tidal flooding has caused significant disruption in parts of the town in the past, with high tides pushing water onto roads, into homes and local businesses.
With sea levels rising and climate change increasing the likelihood of larger tidal events, the north bank of the Afon Teifi faces growing risk.
The proposed scheme aims to reduce tidal flood risk to around 90 homes and businesses and without action, flooding is expected to become more frequent and more severe in the years ahead.
Natural Resources Wales is proposing to build a new tidal flood wall along the river. The scheme would:
- Reduce the risk of tidal flooding
- Strengthen the riverbank
- Create new public spaces along the Strand
- Create new areas of intertidal habitat where the wall is set back
As part of the proposals, slipway access at Gloster Row car park would be permanently closed.
If you can’t make it to the drop-in session, you can also view the proposals and share your views by:
- Visiting the online consultation page and completing the survey: bit.ly/CardiganTidalFloodRiskManagementScheme
- Viewing printed copies of the plans at Cardigan Library
The consultation closes on Monday, May 18, 2026.
All feedback will be reviewed before a planning application is submitted.
