If you find yourself feeling ‘The Need for Speed’ then jet over to Films4Tenby at the DeValence on November 22 for their showing of Top Gun: Maverick (2022, 130 mins, cert 12A) with the doors opening at 6.30pm and the film starting at 7pm.
Returning from the original 1986 film are Tom Cruise as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell and the always excellent Val Kilmer as Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky, joined this time out by Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin, a character that was mentioned several times in the original but never seen.
The story follows Maverick training a new generation of fighter pilots, including the son of his best friend Goose who died in the original. Ridley Scott’s brother Tony was originally going to direct before his death in 2012 so this time Joseph Kosinski is at the helm.
The film has generated an incredible $1.5 billion at the box office to become the highest grossing film of 2022 and of Tom Cruise’s career. Harold Faltermeyer who composed the iconic music score of the original has returned with the theme song sung by Lady Gaga. Admission is £5 on the evening, £4 for Members, £10 for a family of four.
