Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism (SCT) has announced that after 24 years of hard work along with the support of members (mainly Saundersfoot businesses) and volunteers in successfully driving towards the ambitious target of making Saundersfoot ‘a village for all seasons’ now is the right time for change, with the organisation announcing that it will no longer be organising events for the seaside village.
Since 1999 SCT have been involved in delivering and developing a variety of events and features that have been enjoyed by both residents and visitors.
Amongst others these have included - Christmas markets, the Cawl Trail, Dragon and Bat Trails, Big Bang Weekend, Lantern Parade, Saundersfoot Scene, village map, Christmas lights, website and an online business forum offering support during Covid lockdowns.
SCT has also worked in collaboration with other groups and organisations who have worked hard to develop Saundersfoot into the thriving community and attractive destination that it is and that all who live and work in the village are proud of.
Dilys Hackett, chair of SCT said: “This decision has been taken after much discussion and reflection. SCT has always expected that popular and successful village events would be passed on to others in the community.
“The already numerous established village organisations along with emerging groups and the soon to be completed developments in Saundersfoot others are now best placed to develop and build on this legacy in continuing to move the village forward.
“Although as an organisation that will no longer be organising events directly we will be working to share knowledge, experience and lessons learned with others.
“We are also encouraging all our members to support, in whatever way they can, the events and activities undertaken by the many groups who form part of our amazing ‘Community of Spirit’ as we enter a new phase of opportunities and challenges that need to be met to continue Saundersfoot’s success,” she continued.
“I would like to take this opportunity to greatly thank all our members and supporters throughout the past 24 years without whom we could not have achieved many of the successes and built the admirable reputation Saundersfoot has received both locally and nationally.”
As part of their plans for the future, SCT has already had discussions with representatives from Saundersfoot Community Council, Saundersfoot Harbour and County Counillor Chris Williams.
