CAREW Castle will be transported back to the 12th century this August bank holiday, as the Weekend of Warriors and Weaponry returns to the historic Pembrokeshire attraction.

From Saturday to Monday, August 29 to 31, Historia Normannis, one of the UK’s leading living history groups, will bring the castle to life with an authentic medieval encampment, traditional skills and dramatic displays of combat and weaponry.

Visitors will be able to explore the encampment and discover what life was like for a 12th-century army, while budding archers can test their skills with Have-a-Go Archery.

Throughout each day, visitors can also enjoy a programme of living history displays and demonstrations.

• At 11am, the medieval militia will put their training to the test with a lively display of military drills and weapon handling.

• At midday, colourful costumes and authentic clothing from across medieval society will take centre stage in a Medieval Fashion Show, before the focus turns to the ceremony and equipment behind The Arming of the Knight at 1pm.

• The afternoon continues at 2pm with the Shire Court, an interactive exploration of the role of law in Norman Britain, before the day reaches an exciting finale at 3pm with a thrilling tournament showcasing the skill, tactics and martial prowess of medieval warriors.

The Weekend of Warriors and Weaponry takes place from 10am to 4pm each day and is included free with normal Castle admission. A small charge will apply for some activities.
