One of Britain's most respected jazz saxophonists will be performing in St Davids this summer as Jake McMurchie joins the Dan Messore Standards Trio for a special evening of live jazz at MamGu's Kitchen, St Davids, to play the music of Duke Ellington.
Taking place on Friday, July 17 in the beautiful 14th century surroundings of the St Davids Cathedral Refectory, the event will bring together four exceptional musicians for an evening of world class jazz to celebrate one of the worlds most influential figures in jazz history.
Doors open at 6pm, with music beginning at 7pm, and entry is completely free.
Jake McMurchie is widely regarded as one of the UK's leading improvisers. Best known for his work with Get The Blessing and The Jazz Defenders, he has performed with artists including Portishead, Massive Attack, Bobby Shew, Pee Wee Ellis and Super Furry Animals.
His work has been championed by BBC Radio 3, while Get The Blessing's debut album won BBC Jazz Awards Album of the Year in 2008.
Joining him will be the Dan Messore Standards Trio, led by St Davids guitarist Dan Messore and featuring drummer Gethin Jones (Jools Holland, Paloma Faith), and bassist Jake Newman (regular in the west end pits and UK jazz scene).
Few musicians have left a mark on jazz quite like Duke Ellington!
"We're thrilled to be bringing Friday Night Jazz back to the Refectory," said Becky Swift, owner of MamGu's Kitchen.
"Dan's previous performance here was really special, a hugely popular evening, and having Jake McMurchie join the trio to celebrate the music of Duke Ellington makes this a really special night for live music lovers in Pembrokeshire."
With internationally acclaimed and award winning talent, local musicians and a unique historic venue, the evening promises to be another highlight of St Davids’ growing live music scene.
