A NEW monthly night promising house, garage and plenty of chunky grooves is hoping to get Milford Haven dancing when Chunky But Funky takes over Asa’s Bar next week.
The event is the latest addition to the town’s growing nightlife scene, bringing together local DJs for a night spanning classic house, upfront sounds, funky grooves, tech house and garage.
Behind the decks will be Pembrokeshire DJs Stefan Crow, Pooley, Donks and Eddie Loco, who are returning to the local scene with a simple aim – to put on a good night without taking themselves too seriously.
Chunky But Funky has been created as an inclusive night for people who simply enjoy dance music, whether they remember buying their house records on vinyl the first time around or have only recently discovered the genre.
Organisers say there will be no dress codes, no egos and no pressure – just good music and a dancefloor.
The night will also look to the future, with plans to give up-and-coming DJs from Pembrokeshire and further afield the opportunity to get behind the decks.
The organisers are particularly keen to hear from a new generation of selectors playing house and garage who may not yet have had the chance to perform in front of a crowd.
For Eddie Loco, the night also marks a return to the decks after spending years away from the local scene.
Rather than trying to recreate the past, Chunky But Funky hopes to bring together different generations of clubbers, mixing familiar records with some of the best new house and garage around.
Expect everything from classic vocal house and funky grooves to jackin’ house, tech house and enough garage for the two-steppers.
The event forms part of a renewed programme of music at Asa’s Bar in Milford Haven, with local DJs and promoters helping to bring regular dance nights back to the town.
And if the first Chunky But Funky proves a success, the plan is for it to become a regular monthly fixture.
Anyone interested in playing at a future event is encouraged to get in touch with the organisers through the Chunky But Funky Facebook social media page.
Chunky But Funky takes place at Asa’s Bar, Milford Haven, Bank holiday Sunday from 9pm with free entry.
