THE Pembrokeshire Dawn Walk took place on Sunday, October 4, with walkers setting off at 7am from the Cresselly Arms at Cresswell Quay, which was also the finish point. Around 80 entrants took on one of three routes of 8.5, 13 or 20 miles.

The event was held in aid of the Paul Sartori Foundation, in memory of Russell “Ross” Weblin Grimsley, who died in May. Paul Sartori supported Ross’s wife Yvette and daughter AB, enabling him to come home at the end of his life.
Organiser Alison Lewis, who started the Pembrokeshire Dawn Walk in 2003, was absolutely delighted by the response from the local community. She was especially happy to see some faces from the past who took part in the original walks, as well as plenty of new people walking.

Walkers were looked after along the way by many local volunteers and helpers, who staffed five food and water stations and marshalled the roads. A barbecue was served at the finish. Apart from an hour of light drizzle, the weather was kind, and the day had a warm, friendly community atmosphere from start to end.

The total raised so far stands at £8,500, with sponsorship still coming in.
Alison said: “It was a wonderful community day with a really lovely atmosphere. I’m very grateful to everyone who helped out and got involved. It was a special day. Every donation helps Paul Sartori to continue supporting local families.”

The event was made possible by the following generous local sponsors: Steve and Theresa at the Cresselly Arms; Nestlé, who donated 300 bottles of water; Andrew Rees Butchers, Narberth; Wise Buys; Janet and Richard Mathias at Bake Away; Tesco, Pembroke Dock; Hains and Lewis; Rob Willcox Financial Services; Co-op, Kilgetty; Templeton Wine and Spirits.
