Narberth Civic Week bounced into action on Sunday, July 23 with Inflatable fun in Bloomfield all day, and the ‘bouncy’ melodies of Sankey hymns were enjoyed at Bethesda Chapel in the evening.

On Monday morning it was ‘eyes down’ for a popular Civic Week bingo event, while in the afternoon, entertainer Gina Jones ran a children’s disco at Narberth RFC. The event was very well attended and greatly appreciated by all.

In the evening, Team Kylo won It’s a ‘Sports Day’ Knockout, which was described as a brilliant night with great company and lots of laughs.

The Fire Engine was cleaned and ready for visitors at Narberth Fire Station’s Open Day on Tuesday, July 25, which proved to be a busy day with some eye-catching demonstrations and a large turnout. It was also a ‘funday’ at Stopio, which was well supported, with plenty of children coming to have face paint and glitter tattoos applied.

An exciting new event for Civic Week took place on Tuesday evening, when Milford Haven Town Band presented ‘Brass on the Grass’ on the Town’s Moor to families equipped with blankets and picnic chairs. Narberth and Whitland Round Table posted their thanks to the committee online, commenting: “What a lovely evening for Brass on the Grass”, while former County Councillor Vic Dennis called it a “fantastic evening”.

Wednesday’s Beat the Goalie proved popular; winners were: 5 years and under Noah Phillips;

Thursday’s Children’s Treasure Hunt (they did really well) and Span Arts Bushcraft sessions made for a wonderful time.

Forty-seven children took part in the Children’s Sports, relocated to the Bloomfield Sports Hall. The boy with the most overall points was Danny aged 8 and the girl with the most overall points was Elle aged 5, both winning a child day pass to Manor House Wildlife Park.

The pet show, hosted by Vic Dennis at the Scout Hut, proved a highlight of Friday, with prizes donated by Cotton’s Creche and Burns Pet Shop. Smaller creatures were the focus of the Worm Charming sessions, which proved absorbing for the children taking part.

Despite conditions that were miserable at times, nearly 50 children between 5 and 13 years old turned up for cricket, and walking rugby was held in the evening.

Unfortunately, rain stopped play for a couple of scheduled events during the week. The Narberth Dynamos Civic Week Bike Ride planned for Sunday 23 was postponed, and the fbm sponsored pram push planned for Wednesday was cancelled. The Welly Wanging competition also had to be cancelled.

However, Saturday, Carnival Day, ended the week on a high with colourful parades and live music, and also the opportunity for a tug-of-war at Dingle Caravan Park.

Amongst those thanked by the Narberth Civic Week committee are chairman Chris Walters and local Ashley Williams for helping erect the town’s bunting.

Winner of the Civic Week Lucky Square’s competition was number 34 - Nicola Stone and second place was number 18 - Carys Davies.

During the week, Richard Howell, of Narberth Cricket Club was announced as Narberth Person of the Year 2023. Congratulations!
