A NEW season of hands-on workshops will bring cosy evenings of creativity to Carew Castle this November, with four opportunities to make, learn and unwind at Nest Tearoom.
Held on Tuesdays, 4.30pm-6.30pm, in the Castle’s Walled Garden, the sessions are designed for beginners and offer a relaxed way to try a new craft, with all materials, tuition, tea or coffee and homemade cake included.
The programme begins on Tuesday, November 3 with a Needle-Felting Brooch Workshop, where participants will learn the basics of needle felting before creating their own hand-felted brooch in a seasonal, floral or entirely personal design.
On Tuesday, November 10, scraps of fabric will be transformed into colourful decorations during the Christmas Rag Wreath Making Workshop, with each attendee creating a wreath for a front door, festive display or handmade gift.
A week later, An Introduction to Calligraphy aims to open a window onto the medieval world. Taking place on Tuesday, November 17, the session will explore goose-feather quills, oak-gall ink, traditional lettering and the work of scribes and illuminators.
The series concludes on Tuesday, November 24 with a Christmas Needle Felting Workshop, giving beginners the chance to create festive decorations for the tree or to give to friends and family.
Daisy Hughes, Manager of Carew Castle, said: “Our winter workshops are always such an enjoyable way to round off the year at Carew. They give people the chance to switch off for a couple of hours, learn something new and go home with something they’ve made themselves. This year’s programme has a lovely mix of traditional crafts and festive creativity, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people back to Nest Tearoom throughout November.”
A charge applies for each workshop. Sessions are suitable for ages 12 and over, spaces are limited and booking is essential.
