Events are taking place across South Pembrokeshire beteween September 11 and 14 for the region’s ‘Art Out West’ festival.
Art Out West - a grassroots art festival celebrating creativity in West Wales, is bringing together local artists, makers, and community spaces for a programme of inspiring events this month.
The festival aims to celebrate local artists, encourage participation in creative activities, and showcase the role of community hubs in nurturing cultural life across Pembrokeshire.
Open studios include sculpture and woodcarving by Robert Jakes at Way Out West Gallery near Stackpole and a pop up gallery on 36 Main Street, Pembroke, where you can view the work of four artists including photographs and screen prints by James Ramage and jewellery and mixed media paintings and sculpture made from waste and locally found materials by Bronwen Gwillim.
Nature and landscapes inspire rural art in every form, from waltzing with flowers by BuddyMary to stained glass by Pam Blackhurst and meditative painting by Amanda Blake. Each artist offers a unique impression of the world around us.
Workshops range from public/gallery drop-ins to private artist studio visits, giving all the chance to immerse themselves, learn, create, and connect directly with local artists.
“I’m excited to be part of Art Out West this year. The workshops and pop-ups are a chance for people to slow down, get their hands messy, and connect with the landscape around us. For me, clay is all about nature and community. It’s wonderful to share that with others,” said Mena Williams.
The festival will conclude with an interactive guided art talk & walk along the picturesque Main Street of Pembroke, starting at Buddy’s Baked, Eaton House and culminating at West Gate Gallery and Coffee Shop for talks from Pauline Le Britton and George Parfitt with live music from Tomos Newman and dinner. Limited spaces available, booking is recommended through the West Gate Creative Hwb CIC website
Art Out West was set up by a group of artists living on the Castlemartin Peninsula. The event has grown to include artists across South Pembrokeshire, who open their studios to the public for the annual event, alongside a growing programme of exhibitions, workshops, and collaborations designed to celebrate local creativity and bring people together through art.
This year will be the 11th Open Studios event, four days, with 21 venues and 26 local artists in a 23 mile radius.
