The Cantabile Singers is a female-voice, county choir currently based in Haverfordwest and there are currently some exciting opportunities for singers aged between 16 and 60 to join this choir. The choir meets weekly on a Wednesday in Haverfordwest. They are not affiliated to any particular town - instead they are a county choir, and members are welcome from any town or county. Cantabile currently has 34 singers brought together from areas such as Haverfordwest, Pembroke, Fishguard, Newport and as far afield as Carmarthen! The choir was founded in 2006 by its musical director, Richard Stephens, as an opportunity for female singers to perform a repertoire to a high standard of performance, encompassing contemporary music by both Welsh, English and international composers; sacred and other secular music, including music by composers such as Karl Jenkins, John Rutter, James Horner and Randall Stroope. The choir is soon to launch its first commercial recording, 'Another Day', which goes on sale soon and includes a range of the choir's stunning repertoire. The young age range of the choir benefits the scope of the repertoire and Cantabile is a huge contribution to the already rich musical culture of the area. The choir is currently seeking to recruit mezzo soprano and contralto members - the ability to read music is not essential, as everyone is trained in the same way. The ideal member will possess a willingness to sing well, develop their singing and vocal training during rehearsal sessions and attend on a regular basis. In return for this commitment, you will have an opportunity to perform in some exciting concerts and concert venues throughout the country. In July the choir have been invited to perform at St. Chad's Parish Church in Shrewsbury and in November they will join with 500 others at St. David's Hall in aid of the NSPCC. In 2009, the choir will be undertaking a tour to Dublin and also a tour to Cornwall. The choir's president is West-End star Connie Fisher and she keeps in regular contact with the choir and encourages its progress in the musical world. The choir's musical director is Richard Stephens, who is no stranger to the choral scene in Wales and other parts of the world. He has toured widely as conductor and is currently booked to conduct some impressive concerts at international venues, including the Royal Albert Hall. So, if you would like to join this choir, sing some of the most beautiful repertoire available for upper voices, and to go places, then they need you.
