Tenby welcomed some good news this week with the approval of a grant of over £100,000 from the Enhancing Pembrokeshire Fund to be spent on ‘Places and Spaces’ around the town.

The grant will be part of a £135,000 programme by the Town Council, which will see urgent repairs done to gardens and benches.

Some gardens will be upgraded and there will be new equipment for the Jubilee Play Area.

Other monies will provide support for people who are isolated in the community. There will also be advice and support for local organisations to attract more grant funding in the future.

Welcoming the news, Tenby’s Mayor, Clr. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall said: “I am so pleased that we have been successful. This is about improving our important spaces and making them fit for us all to enjoy.

“Urgent safety repairs, new Play equipment, refurbished and replaced benches, improved connectivity to community buildings, more support to local people and groups – all of this is included. This is good news for Tenby.”

All of the work will be carried out over the next 12 months, with some works already commissioned.

It is hoped that the new play equipment will be in place for the summer and that essential repairs will be carried out very soon. Some larger modernisation works to gardens will be carried out in the autumn.

Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, member of the town’s regeneration team and chairman of Tenby in Bloom said: “We can now do some urgent works and upgrade some of our key gardens to make them better spaces for us all to enjoy.

“This is part of an ongoing programme, investing now to save money later and always trying to be better still.”

The project is part of Tenby Town Council’s continuining plans for improving access and making the town an even better place.

The Mayor confirmed that the Town Council were already working on ideas for the next phase.

“We are committed to making Tenby even better for people that live here. In addition to our plans for improvements, we also want to hear ideas from people about which places and spaces should be targeted for improvement works,” she added.

Tenby Town Council will soon be recruiting a community engagement officer to help deliver the project and work with local community and groups.

Full details of the project are available at Tenby Town Council’s offices at the De Valence.
