Tenby AFC held their annual Junior presentation night at the British Legion, Tenby, recently. Chairman, Huw Bridges opened the evening and said that it had been another successful season. He thanked all the managers for their hard, dedicated work throughout the year and hoped they would carry on next season where they had finished off this one. Very special thanks went to Angela Nicholls and Dene Hurlow for their continued work with, not only their teams, but starting new ones and work on the committee. The Under 14s had won the double for the second year running and just failed to add the blue riband, West Wales Cup, to their array of silverware. The Under 16s had won their league and were runners- up in the cup and reached the semi-final of the West Wales Cup, losing narrowly to the eventual winners. The Under 13s were runners-up in both the league and cup, while the Under 12s won their cup, but were runners-up in the league. Had there been leagues for all the age groups, then the Under 11s, 10', 9 As and 8s would have won theirs, respectively. Huw also thanked Phil Thompson and Texaco for their continued support as Tenby AFC main sponsor and the Tenby Observer (and reporter, David Gibbs) for allowing the club the space each week for their match reports. The Under 8s, sponsored by Andrew Price, had an excellent first season and managers Jason Taylor and Lloyd Goforth had nothing but praise for their young players. They were runners-up in both the Tenby and Pennar Robins 7s tournaments. Each one received a commemorative shield. The Under 9s 'A' and 'B' managers, Alan Harries, Kevin Ferney and Jon Dyson, congratulated their squads for another good season and presented each one with a commemorative shield. Sponsored by the Park Road Chip Shop, Tenby, their highlights of the season were taking part in the Champion of Champions Tournament at the Millennium Stadium and recently winning the West End 7s in Swansea. The Gallery Bistro sponsored Under 10s manager, Huw Bridges, also had an enjoyable year. The Clubman was Ellis Morgan, while Brandon Taylor- Monaghan was voted the Most Improved Player. The team elected Jerome Mansbridge as their Players' Player and Huw picked Jacob Dent as his Player of the Year. Angela Nicholls' Under 10s girls, sponsored by Tatung/Jazz Radio, enjoyed an excellent season, ending the season as runners-up. Sarah Jackson received the Clubman award and Becky Gwyther won the Most Improved Player. Her fellow players voted Polly Scotcher as the Players' Player and the manager's Player of the Year was shared between Lois Horsley and Holly Furlong. Manorbier Stores and Post Office sponsored the Under 11s and their management team of Simon Rossiter and Neil Webb had nothing but admiration for their team's effort this term. The Clubman of the Year was Chayne Lloyd and the Most Improved Player was Tom Grover. The Players' Player was Toby Rossiter, for the second year running, while the Player of the Year was Corey Morris. Gavin Scotcher's Under 12s, sponsored by Capital Roasters, won the cup, but was just pipped to the championship by close rivals Pennar Robins. Henry Whittaker and the popular, Rob Luly shared the Clubman award, with the Most Improved Player going to Jake Procter. The Players' Player went to Greg Caine, in his first season with the Seasiders, and the Player of the Year was awarded to Owen Bateman. Gavin's son, Elliot, had some good news; he has just signed a new two-year contract with Cardiff City. Everyone at the club wishes Elliot the very best for the future. The Park Road Garage sponsored Under 12s girls had a good year and played some entertaining football. Clubman of the Year went to Molly Goforth, while Bethan Osborne collected the Most Improved Player. Players Player went to D'arcy Escott and Angela Nicholls voted Marie Robison as her Player of the Year. The Tenby Cycle and Skateboard sponsored Under 13s, managed by Dene Hurlow and Garry Heesom, just failed to emulate last season's double achievement, but managed the double as runners- up. The Clubman award was won by Aaron Roberts, while the Most Improved Player was shared by Dan Edwards and Ashley Smith. Goalkeeper Jake Roberts was voted the Players' Player and Curtis Hurlow was named as Player of the Year. The managers' special award went to Rob Fairlie, for his general improvement and attitude. Tenby AFC Junior Goalkeeper of the Year went to the Under 13s, Jake Roberts, who received the Bernard Steer Shield. The Under 14s, sponsored by Tenby House Hotel, under the guidance of Charles Davies and Remi Page, had a tremendous season by winning the double again. They have only lost one game in two years and that was in the West Wales Cup Final. Tom Powell received the Clubman of the Year, while the Most Improved Player was shared between Joe Richards and Tom Baker. The Players' Player went to the left-footed Ianto Griffiths. Charles and Remi couldn't separate Ross Gray and Luke Hamilton, so they both shared the managers' Player of the Year award. Before the end of the season, Alex Harley signed for Swansea City and in recognition of this he was awarded the Sid Spencer Shield for the Most Outstanding Junior Player of the Year. The Hilling Shield for the Junior Team of the Year also went to the Under 14s, for a truly remarkable year. Angela's Under 14s girls had a mixed but enjoyable season, with many girls looking good prospects for Tenby AFC Ladies in the future. Sam Bowen was named Clubman of the Year and Kelsey Logue picked up the Most Improved Player award. The Players' Player went to Sophie Izzard, for the second year running, while Chloe Lloyd was the manager's choice for Player of the Year. The Nicola Aston Outstanding Girl Player Shield went to Nia Thomas for her contribution to Tenby AFC and the County. The Picnic Basket/Neil Finlay Cars sponsored Under 16s also had an excellent season and a full account was reported in the Observer a few weeks ago. Richard Thomas and Aaron Goldsmith shared the Clubman award and Luke Dedman received the Most Improved Player accolade. Manager Angela Nicholls and her squad had the same view when Billy Vaughan won both the Players' Player and the Player of the Year awards. A special trophy for top goal scorer and goal of the season went to Mikey Boswell and Michael Halligan, respectively. The Senior dinner was held a week earlier at the Giltar Hotel with over 70 players, committee and guests attending. In the absence of Second team manager, Lee Simmons. Mattie Broadhurst gave a witty report on the season's ups and downs. Adam Brown and Ben McDonell shared the Clubman award and goalkeeper Lewis Hurlow received the Most Improved Player shield. The Players' Player was the very popular Adam Brown, while the outstanding Sonny Phillips was Player of the Year. Steve Briers and Stuart Adams reported that the final position of the First team belittled some of the performances that they had. With a little bit more luck they could and should have finished a comfortable mid-table. Steve thanked Mike and Lol at Jammo's for their sponsorship and excellent after-match refreshments. Steve 'Willy' Williams won the Clubman award, while Marc James and David Jones shared the Most Improved Player trophy. The Players' Player was also shared by the evergreen Anthony Griffiths and the youthful Bobby Briers, and Ben Brooks won the Player of the Year shield. A new award was presented to the club by Anne Elms in memory of her late husband, Johnny, who sadly died during the season. Johnny was a stalwart of Tenby AFC and this was a fitting way to remember him. The award was for the Outstanding Young Senior Player of the Year and was presented to the first recipient, Bobby Briers, by Johnny and Anne's son, Dale. The last award of the evening was presented by chairman, Huw Bridges, and this was the Deryn Brace Shield for Dedication to Tenby AFC. It was awarded to Peter Horsley for over 20 years playing service and the help he has given to the Junior section.
