Narberth 35 pts. Dunvant 9
In their last home league match of the season, the Otters had an emphatic win over Dunvant in a re- arranged game. Narberth winger Andrew Jones opened the scoring after three minutes with a try in the bottom left corner after being put away by Narberth skipper and fullback Sion Brace. Outside-half Aled Davies added the points for the conversion. Dunvant came back after 10 minutes with a short range penalty by outside-half Andrew Williams. Excellent combined play between centre Steve Martin and Neil Davies put the Otters in a good attacking position and with the path to the line blocked, Aled Davies kicked a drop-goal. Dunvant played with spirit and a run by scrum-half Ieuan Evans appeared to have 'try' written all over it until a last-ditch tackle by Narberth skipper Sion Brace. Andrew Williams kicked another penalty to reduce the deficit for Dunvant, but after 27 minutes, Sion Brace scored a soft try for Narberth which was not converted. A penalty by Andrew Williams after 32 minutes proved to be the last score of the first half, with the Otters changing over with a lead of six points. In the second half, it was more one-way traffic, with Dunvant failing to score and the Otters adding three tries. Steve Martin scored the first when he ghosted past Dunvant defenders for an unconverted try. The lead was extended with a penalty from Aled Davies and Dunvant suffered another blow when replacement prop Jamie Davies was red-carded. A try by Andrew Jones with a run from the halfway line when he picked up a loose ball put the game out of reach for the visitors. Aled Davies converted that try, but could not convert the final try scored by Steve Martin after he had been put away by hooker Dan Smith. Speaking after the match, backs' coach Clive James said: "In some respects it was a typical end of season no contest affair and we did not produce our best rugby of the season. "For once the crowd was surprisingly quiet, possibly because of the stop-start nature of the game. "Dunvant played with guts and passion, but we managed to show the right intent to produce some winning rugby. "It was nice to get a win and to give an opportunity to some of our younger players. "Back row forwards Rion Whatmore and Richard Sharpe-Williams both did well and John Tennick, who can play in the back row or second row, once again confirmed his potential." Centre Steve Martin was nominated man-of-the- match by the Folly Farm Balcony Suite match sponsors Eddie's Sports Bar, Haverfordwest. The match ball sponsors were the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland, Malcolm Kennard, of Crundale, and the Narberth Former Players. Special guests at the match were representatives of Narberth Cricket Club and Narberth AFC. Narberth fielded: Sion Brace (capt.), Nick Jones (Richard Davies), Steve Martin, Neil Davies, Andrew Jones, Aled Davies, Andrew Davies (Adrian Killa), Ryan Perrott (Justin Hughes), Dan Smith, Tom Slater, Jason Jennings, Alex Jenkins (David Ebsworth), John Tennick (Richard Sharpe-Williams), Rion Whatmore and Gareth Bateman.
