The service began on Sunday with Jackie Rodda leading a time of moving worship.

Jackie played piano, Pastor Jonathan guitar, and Joshua Veale accompanied on drums. Natalie aided vocals.

Songs included 'The Potters Hand' and 'In heavenly armour.'

The message was given by Pastor Edward Evans and was centred on the account of the tower of Babel.

He looked at the origins of Babel and later its evolution to the city of Babylon, and showed how it was a symbol of man's pride and self effort.

We looked at the example of the great king Nebuchadnezzar, and saw how when he became proud, God humbled him, and reminded him that all his success was from God, not himself.

He then related this to the work of salvation, showing the vanity of man's own efforts of righteousness, and that our only hope is in Christ Jesus, who won our forgiveness through his sacrifice on the cross.

In the word of the old hymn, 'nothing in my hand I bring, simply to thy cross I cling' were cited as a reminder of the power of the cross, and the emptiness of self effort.

The meeting was followed by a bring and share dinner, a wonderful spread of various dishes, and a great time of fellowship.
