Sunday's meeting started with prayer and praise and worship, this week led by Jackie Rodda, followed by the word brought by Rev. J. Fiddy on God's love.
Christianity is love! The world is full of people that are searching; looking to fulfil the need within, and often involves using money, power or relationships to fill the void. Jesus promised us that if we come to him for our fulfilment we will never thirst again. Every human being has an innate need for love, that love can only be satisfied by the love of God, which is pure, holy and supersedes all human love.
Psalm 139 reminds us God knew us when we were still in our mother's womb. We are told that God's thoughts towards us are beyond number, what a wonderful thing! God's love is not the wishy-washy type of love that we hear of so often. It is powerful redeeming love, and was demonstrated when Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice out of his great love for all of us. God also expects us to love in a similar way to him, and to be full of grace and mercy in our reaching out to others, while we should never ignore or encourage sin, we should be quick to forgive and be gracious if a person is sorry.
In Ephesians, Paul prays that christians will realise the greatness of God's love which surpasses knowledge. The message concluded with a look at the wonderful verses of 1 Cor 13. This tells us of love and its ultimate importance. These three abide, faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.
