"Jesus came to break down walls," said the pastor, Rev. Jonathan Fiddy, on Sunday morning. There had been a time of singing praise songs to God, and prayers had been offered, before Mr. Fiddy gave his address. In it, he explained how through the peaceful power of Christ, walls of prejudice, fear and opposition can be broken down. He rejoiced that the gospel is finding ways to get into closed countries, and called his listeners to face their fears with the truth, because "whatever we fear most still cannot separate us from the love of God." The pastor then pointed out that there are times when it is right to build walls. They serve as boundaries of protection. He said that God put up walls of morality as a protection against STDs and the other consequences of doing "whatever feels good at the time." There are also boundaries of doctrine which separate believers from heretics, he claimed. These boundaries are not the same as the walls of man-made tradition which can prevent us from being flexible to the needs of others. "We are the only Bible some people will read", Jonathan concluded. "We must always be ready to give an argument for our faith, and we must live it." Emmanuel Gospel Church is situated at the top of Manorbier, just off the Tenby to Pembroke road. Sunday services are held at 10.15 am. Telephone 01834 871975 for more information.
