A Tenby youngster has continued her floral fundraising quest this year to aid Greenacres Animal Rescue.
Twelve-year-old Emelia Blomquist (a former pupil of Ysgol Hafan y Mor who now attends Ysgol Caer Elen) was inspired during lockdown, by Captain Sir Tom’s fundraising feat, and decided to plant, grow and sell sunflowers (her favourite flower) outside her home in the seaside town, to raise money for the animal rescue charity.
Passionate about animals and with a view to working with animals when she is older, in total so far, Emelia has raised £1,470 for the cause, since 2020.
Mayor Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall, pictured presenting Emelia with a certificate from Tenby Town Council acknowledging her efforts, said: “I wanted to keep celebrating all that was good about the town, and Emelia put a smile on so many faces during a very difficult time throughout the pandemic.
“The sunflower has many meanings in different cultures, positivity, strength, admiration and loyalty. All these I think encompass what happened in the pandemic.
“Emelia’s determination to raise money for a brilliant cause shows her dedication in wanting to do something positive in a difficult time. She knows she was and still is one of my superstars. Well done Emelia, we are all very proud of you.”
