Election fever is starting to grip Pembrokeshire ahead of next month's county, town and community council contests, with the deadline now closed for candidate nominations.
Although voters in 13 of the county council's 60 wards will not be going to the polls on Thursday, May 3, there's still some keenly-fought battles on the cards in other divisions, including Saundersfoot, where former chairman of South Pembrokeshire District Council and the first woman chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Mrs. Rosemary Hayes (Welsh Conservative), who was ousted from her seat back in 2008 by Phil Baker, will once again go head to head with her community council colleague for the chance to represent the villagers and businesses of the resort.
In Tenby, Michael Williams (Plaid Cymru) will face competition from Fiona Birt-Llewellin (Welsh Conservative) to retain his North ward seat, while in the resort's South ward, Michael Evans (Independent) will go up against Jennifer Bradley for the position.
Another campaign clash takes place in Manorbier, where current member, Malcolm Calver will be going up against chairman of the village's community council Ray Hughes, along with other candidates Phillip Kidney, Eleanor Parker (Welsh Conservative), Norman Richard Parry (Independent), Pearl Tew (Independent) and Tony Wales (Welsh Labour).
In Narberth, Wynne Evans will be hoping to see off a challenge from Di Clements (Welsh Conservative) and Sue Rees (Independent), while Narberth Rural will see Elwyn Morse (Independent) look to hold on to his role in office ahead of rival Rayner Peet (Welsh Conservative).
There will be a new name filling the position of county councillor in Penally, as current member Mrs. Carol Cavill will not be standing for re-election, leaving a three-way battle between John Everett (Welsh Conservative), Graham Fry and Jonathan Spencer Preston (Plaid Cymru) to fill the post.
The divisions of Pembroke Monkton, Pembroke St. Mary North, Pembroke St. Mary South, Pembroke St. Michael, Pembroke Dock Llanion, Pembroke Dock Market, and Pembroke Dock Central, will also see elections taking place.
Councillors retaining their seats include current chairman David Pugh (Indepedent) in Kilgetty/Begelly, David Neale at Carew, Tony Wilcox (Welsh Labour) for Pembroke Dock Pennar.
Voters will also be going to the ballot booths to elect candidates for the town and community councils within the county, with elections taking place in Angle, Manorbier Jameston and Lydstep, Martletwy Lawrenny, Pembroke St. Mary South, and Saundersfoot.
