Pembrokeshire College’s annual spring fair took place with a variety of stalls raising money for charity.

One stall in particular raised over £200 in aid of the Help the Heroes by creating decorative items out of pre-loved objects and materials.

The stallholders in question were a group of six learners who recently met on an upcycling craft course delivered by the college’s Reach project, a programme of training available to those who are unemployed, have health issues or are over the age of 55. When the course came to an end, the group were keen to continue with their learning and creative activities and, with help of course tutor Debbie Kimsey, decided to embark on a new project in time for the college’s spring fair.

The group sourced items that could be re-used and turned in to something else and made frames and mirrors from driftwood collected from local beaches, wine bottles were decorated and made in to vases, while t-shirts were transformed in to pretty scarves. Unused tiles were painted to be used as coasters, while an unused tin of buttons were made in to decorative heart ornaments.

“This project has really helped the group to bond and they are all eager to continue to meet and continue to learn new crafts,” said Debbie, “we were all thrilled with the amount of money raised.”

The spring fair is part of the Pembrokeshire College enterprise project where students are tasked with co-ordinating a live event. Fairs are held in the spring and at Christmas. If you would like to book a stall, contact Karen Neville via [email protected]
