A new mural at a Pembrokeshire School is celebrating community, culture and the great outdoors.

Templeton School has been given a colourful new focal point, following the creation of a vibrant mural celebrating the school’s ethos, its community and its place within Pembrokeshire.

The school has been delighted to work alongside local artists Martina, Saskia and Nia-Anne Morgan to bring the exciting project to life.

The mural, which now takes pride of place in the school hall, reflects many of the values and principles that are at the heart of Templeton School.

The project began with the ideas and imagination of members of the School Council, who were invited to share their thoughts about what makes their school special and the things that are important to them.

Their ideas were then brought together and developed by the Morgan family of artists, working closely with Headteacher, Mrs Sarah Arthur.

The finished mural incorporates a range of themes which represent the school community, including the outdoors, trees and the natural environment, alongside ideas of belonging, Welsh culture and being part of the wider Pembrokeshire community.

For the children, the project has been particularly exciting as they have been able to watch the mural develop throughout the start of the new term.

From seeing the initial ideas take shape to watching the artists bring colour and detail to the wall, pupils have enjoyed being part of the process and seeing their school transformed.

Mrs Arthur said: “The mural depicts so many aspects of our school ethos. It celebrates our children, our environment, our Welsh culture and our sense of belonging within Pembrokeshire. It has also given our school hall a wonderful facelift and has made such a positive improvement to the space.”

Mrs Arthur who was recently announced as the headteacher of The Federation of Tavernspite and Templeton Schools, added that the school was particularly grateful to the Morgan family for their contribution and support.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Martina, Saskia and Nia-Anne Morgan for their creativity, time and enthusiasm. The Morgan family have had very close connections with Tavernspite School for the last 20 years, and it is wonderful to continue that connection through this special project,” she continued.

The school would also like to extend its thanks to the staff at A1 Services, who supported the project by providing the scaffolding tower needed to enable the artists to safely reach the higher sections of the mural.

The mural has already become a talking point among pupils and staff, with children enjoying spotting the different elements and identifying how their ideas and suggestions have been represented.

The completed artwork is not only a bright and welcoming addition to the school hall, but also a lasting reminder of the values that Templeton School holds dear: celebrating its children, its community, its Welsh identity and the beautiful natural environment that surrounds it.

For Templeton School, the mural is a celebration of who they are, where they belong and what makes their community special.
