BY working together, Dragon Energy and Pembrokeshire College are helping to equip young people with the skills, knowledge and ambition needed to support the region's future workforce while contributing to a more sustainable Pembrokeshire.

Three new turbines now stand along the Haven Waterway in South Pembrokeshire, representing the region's contribution to a lower-carbon future. Alongside producing renewable energy, Dragon Energy's Community Wind Fund is delivering lasting benefits to local communities by supporting initiatives that reduce energy costs and invest in education and skills development.

One of the beneficiaries of the Fund is Pembrokeshire College, whose long-standing partnership with local secondary schools provides vocational learning opportunities for young people across the county. The funding is supporting an innovative extracurricular programme for Year 11 learners from Milford Haven School, enabling them to gain an additional qualification while developing knowledge and skills linked to sustainability, engineering and the environment.

Delivered by Pembrokeshire College, the programme combines practical learning with real-world challenges, encouraging learners to explore how they can contribute to a more sustainable future while discovering potential career pathways within key local industries.

Hayley Williams, Curriculum Development Manager at Pembrokeshire College, said: “At the heart of the programme is project-based learning, giving students valuable exposure to project management, as well as engineering and construction skills. It is hoped that this hands-on experience will spark interest in future careers across these vital sectors.”

The initiative reflects the commitment of the College and Dragon LNG to providing learners with meaningful experiences that build confidence, raise aspirations and strengthen links between education and industry.

Lynette Round, Community and Social Performance Officer at Dragon Energy, added: “Our Community Wind Fund is designed to deliver long-term benefits locally, and supporting young people to develop new skills and aspirations is one of the most important investments we can make. Through programmes like this, we can help young people see the exciting opportunities available on their doorstep and encourage the next generation of skilled professionals who will shape Pembrokeshire’s future.”

At a time when increasing financial pressures have limited funding for enrichment activities and additional qualifications, Dragon Energy's five-year investment is helping to ensure learners continue to access valuable opportunities beyond the classroom.
