Pembrokeshire residents wishing to study for a qualification that enables them to work in education can do so at an open evening planned later this month.

Monkton School will be hosting the event for their popular foundation degree in inclusive studies (offered through University of Wales, Trinity St. David) on Monday, June 25, between 4.30-6 pm.

The three year foundation degree is studied part time and can be fitted around work and children.

There is also an option to complete a full BA degree in the fourth year.

In the seven years the school has been running the course, over 70 people have graduated with full honours with two having gone on to win Learning and work institute awards.

“Studying for the foundation degree can enhance your prospects of working in early years, primary and secondary education,” said launch adult learning project co-ordinator, Kellie Bellmaine.

“It’s particularly useful for those wishing to improve their chances of working with children with special needs.

“The open day is an opportunity to meet the Programme Director and find out more about this part-time degree that can be studied in the evenings at Monkton School,” she added.

The course covers modules such a overcoming barriers to specific learning difficulties, exploring behaviour and interventions in learning, additional needs in context, principles of learning and teaching, social inclusion in practice, children and young peoples’ mental health and wellbeing, keeping our children safe.

Mature students over the age of 20 do not need previous qualifications to be eligible to study and grants are available for those that qualify.
