The demolition of Tenby Infants School is underway.
After more than 60 years of serving the town, the Heywood Lane educational facility is being torn down.
“When the work has been completed, a small playing pitch will be reinstated which will be for the use of pupils from Greenhill School,” said a spokeswoman for Pembrokeshire County Council.
“The contract is expected to be completed by January 2017.”
Meanwhile, two new schools opened their doors for the first time this week.
One is the English-medium Tenby Church in Wales VC Primary School and the other is the Welsh-medium Ysgol Hafan Y Môr.
They replace the Tenby VC Infants and Tenby Junior schools and will cater for children between the ages of three and 11.
The two new schools represent an £8.37 million investment in education in the town and were built under the 21st Century Schools Programme - a collaboration between Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Government who are sharing the funding.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Paul Rapi said that he had attended the Ysgol Hafan Y Môr opening and it was “very exciting up there.”
His colleague, Clr. Ben James, said that he’d been to visit the Tenby Church in Wales VC Primary School and that the building was “amazing”.
“I would echo those thoughts, both buildings are amazing,” commented Clr. Mike Evans. “We have three great primary schools in the town, and must also congratulate the new headmistress of St. Teilo’s Catholic School.
“We wish all schools success with their academic year,” he added.
Clr. Rapi also asked if a letter of congratulations could be sent to Greenhill School on what he described as an “exceptional” set of exam results this year.
