Pembrokeshire College’s A-level photography students have swept the board at the Urdd Eisteddfod, winning six prizes between them.

Based on the theme ‘Belonging’, the group submitted a series of colour and monochrome prints in the under 19s category and dominated the leader board as follows:

Series of Colour Prints - under 19: 1. Ruby Vaughan-Norris, Pembrokeshire College; 2. Abby Mee, Pembrokeshire College.

Series of Monochrome Prints - under 19: 1. Eva Watkins, Pembrokeshire College; 2. Rachel Thomas, Pembrokeshire College; 3. Luke O’Connor, Pembrokeshire College.

Monochrome Print - under 19: 1. Pearl Marden-Lewis, Pembrokeshire College.

Eva Watkins came first in the category for a Series of Monochrome Prints with images of a young boy sitting on an armchair in the woods and explained: “I tried to convey a sense of belonging to nature while using furniture conventionally used in the home.”

Senior lecturer of photography, Barbara Simon, said she was delighted for the group’s success.

We have an exceptionally talented group of learners and I am extremely proud of them all,” she said. “It’s important for them to show their work to the wider-world, this is a great start from them and will help to boost their confidence.”

The group’s work will go on to compete in the heats of the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham and the results will be announced at the end of May.
