The proposals will now proceed, with statutory notice issued to Ysgol Y Ddwylan, Ysgol Cwrt Henri, Ysgol Gymraeg Y Tymbl and Ysgol Llanybydder on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
If approved, the changes would allow children from the age of three to access part-time, funded nursery education in areas where the current provision is limited.
Parents, teachers, school governors and the wider school community will have the opportunity to have their say as part of the statutory notice period, once this begins
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Glynog Davies, said:“This proposal is welcomed and will enable Carmarthenshire County Council to provide a more balanced education provision across the county. This will compliment existing childcare support, with responses to the consultation held showing that these proposals are favourable.”
These proposals follow a decision by the Council’s Cabinet in March 2024 to remove the “Rising 4s” policy from 1 September 2025, with children instead starting full-time education at the beginning of the term following their fourth birthday.
