Members of Saundersfoot’s Neighbourhood Policing Team have been liaising with local county councillors over issues of motorists leaving vehicle engines running outside the village’s school during pick-up times.

“I have had a very positive response from the public on this and a positive conversation with Saundersfoot School,” said south ward county councillor Cllr Chris Williams who has been liaising with PCSO Ffion on the matter.

“For me this is all about educating rather than enforcement. Personally this should come from the school and the children as this would certainly be listened to more positively.

“I have asked the local PCSO to call in at the school just to remind individuals of the problems of breathing in carbon monoxide if numerous cars are idling outside school grounds.

“We also have to remember that the footpath backs onto the car spaces on Frances Road. The school has approved signage from Pembrokeshire County Council.

“This is a clear sign asking for engines to be switched off and I hope that educating the small minority will work,” he added.

Last year, environmentally-minded pupils from Neyland School’s Eco Warriors Group ran a campaign to get parents and carers to shut off car engines as they wait to drop-off or pick-up pupils.
