The Community Market, held in East Williamston Hall on November 18 was a great success.
Visitors were able to browse among a wide variety of stalls and purchase items ranging from meats, cheeses and dairy produce, home-made cakes and special Christmas cakes, preserves and chutneys, jewellery, fancy goods, Christmas items, RNLI souvenirs, hand-made cards and toiletries, not to mention delicious local ice-creams.
The occasion was further enhanced by the refreshments of teas, coffees and home-made soups on sale. Special thanks were extended to Jill Thomas and Sian Beynon for masterminding the day and to all who helped and supported it. Another market is planned for next March.
The evening of November 18 saw another very enjoyable event in the hall. An advertised games night led people to wonder what was in store, but those of all ages turned up to find out and were not disappointed. Pool, darts, bowls and a fascinating corks challenge tested skills and ability to the full and, as pairs were drawn at random, everyone mixed and socialised as the knockout rounds progressed. Mark Taylor and Mandy are to be congratulated on arranging what, it is hoped, will be the first of many similar functions.
The next diary date for East Williamston Community is Friday, December 15, when the quiz evening will take on a Christmas theme. As usual, the bar will open at 7.30 pm and questions will begin at eight. This is definitely an occasion not to be missed, it is not Mastermind, just a chance to air a little general knowledge, meet friends and neighbours and have a good time.
The following evening (Saturday, December 16) the lights on the tree outside the hall will be switched on at 6 pm and then everyone will join in carol singing (round the tree if fine, inside if wet), accompanied by a band. All are then invited to enjoy a fun-filled social evening in the hall for the modest charge of £4 for adults and £2 for children. Attractions include refreshments, entertainment by the ever-popular Chunky Russell (loved by both young and young at heart) and live music. The bar, with draught beer, will be open and everyone is warmly invited to come and join in all the seasonal fun. Tickets for a grand raffle, in aid of hall funds, are currently on sale from committee members (anyone else willing to sell them should ring 01834 813778) and the draw will take place during the evening. New Year's Eve will see another lively occasion, when there will be a gathering in the hall from 7 pm onwards. The bar will again be open, there will be some amusing games such as Pictionary, music and a karaoke machine will feature in the programme and everyone who attends is asked to bring a plate of 'bring and share' food. All are invited to come along and see in 2007 in style! Community newsletters are currently being distributed and should reach all in East Williamston parish within the next week.
