Committee members at the May meeting of East Williamston Community and Hall Association were delighted with the progress of the village's Jubilee Park. Dryer weather is awaited for the contractor to finish on site and, once the kissing gates are in position and the boardwalk completed, it should be possible to open the area to the public. The new car park is now under construction and will lead to over a mile of footpaths for local people to enjoy. The young trees planted by volunteers are establishing themselves well, although a hot, dry summer would not be good news for them! It was regretted that the April concert by the Griffin Choir had to be cancelled, but it is hoped that this might now take place in November. On Friday, July 22, a Quiz Night will be held in the Community Hall. It will be a very friendly and enjoyable evening and everyone is invited to come and join in the fun at 7.30 for 8 pm. Plans are already well advanced for the Trafalgar Day festivities, which will definitely be an occasion not to be missed. Saturday, October 22, will see the hall decorated in a sea-faring theme and the programme for the evening includes a children's nautical fancy dress competition (similar costume for adults is optional). There will be refreshments that Nelson might have enjoyed, a bar (which his crew would definitely have appreciated) and sea shanties and a sing-along with 'Fishguard Folk', as well as amusing entertainment from popular local characters that bear a passing resemblance to Dennis Reed! The extravaganza will run from 7 to 11.30 pm and will cost £5 for adults and £3 for children. It has been hard to find a suitable date for the Protheroe Memorial Whist Drive because of other whist evenings already taking place locally, but possibilities are still being explored. The audited accounts were discussed and will be presented at the annual general meeting on Wednesday, July 13 (7.30 pm). The editor of the newsletter explained to the committee how very much the locality is indebted to Texaco (Pembroke), whose generous help and sponsorship enables production of over 800 magazines three times a year. Members expressed their appreciation to the company for its wonderful contribution to community life.
