This year, Dyffryn Taf School in Whitland held numerous events to raise money for the BBC Children in Need Charity Appeal. The school Sixth Form charity committee were the main organisers and were responsible for planning the events held at the school on Thursday, November 15. These included making and then selling homemade cakes and Pudsey Bear biscuits, nail painting, a 'name the teddy' competition, 'guess how many sweets in the jar' competition, a 'cool stuff stall' and numerous donation buckets. The committee would like to thank the Co-op in Whitland and Costcutter in Narberth, who donated prizes for the competitions. Thursday was also an own clothes day for all pupils, everyone being asked to donate a pound, with all money going to this great cause. The day's events were well supported by the whole school. The charity committee arranged some of the coins they collected into the shape of a huge Pudsey Bear on the floor of the hall and this was effective in illustrating how much money was collected just during the lunch hour. Louise Richards, chairperson of the charity committee, said; "I am very pleased with how the day worked out and very thankful to everyone who contributed to the event. It's been hard work, but very worthwhile!" The school succeeded in raising over £1,500 for Children in Need! Headteacher Mr. Robert Newsome said: "It's wonderful to see the caring nature of young people and their concerns for those less fortunate than themselves." During the coming year, the charity committee will hold a number of other events to raise money for charity and hope to achieve the same level of success.
