Sixteen less people were killed on the roads in Dyfed Powys Police last year.
The force also saw a reduction of total casualties by 452 from 2,682 in 2007 to 2,230 in 2008.
Chief Inspector Steve Matchett said: "We are pleased to see less people being killed and injured on our roads.
"The roads policing unit has been working hard with our neighbourhood policing teams and external partners to ensure people are safe on our roads.
"However, one death is one too many and we will continue with our work to reduce casualties and educate motorists."
Some of the initiatives undertaken include Op Darwen which saw the targeting of indiscriminate riding behaviour by motorcyclists and Bikesafe which taught motorcyclists how to stay safe on the roads.
The force also participates in the all-Wales campaigns targeting drink driving, motorcyclists, in car safety and driving with mobile phones.
A large amount of work has also taken place educating in schools and with young people on safe driving.
