Sir,
As residents of the Marsh Road and proprietors of a well established caravan park situated along that road and aimed at holidays for families with children, we would like to express our extreme concern at the recent sharp increase in the disturbances caused by foul mouthed drunk and disorderly individuals during the early hours of every Saturday and Sunday morning as they make their way along the Marsh Road shouting abuse and generally creating mayhem between the hours approximately 2 and 4 am.
We have run our family business successfully for the past 40 years and the visitors who have stayed with us have always enjoyed their stay in Tenby. With the increase of such appalling behaviour, however, we are now receiving more and more complaints about the late night disturbances and also the increase that is generally felt due to the intimidating presence of the gangs of drunks now to be found, especially at weekends in Tenby.
In addition to the escalation in chaos and disruption during the early hours, anyone deciding to venture into Tenby at weekends will now increasingly bear witness to foul language, fighting, indecent behaviour, urinating and vomiting (openly and unashamedly) on the streets. The recent rise in such disgusting behaviour occurs not only late at night but also during the afternoon and early evening when Tenby is packed (especially at this time of year) with families, both locals and holidaymakers alike.
This type of activity can surely serve no real purpose other than to cause untold and possibly irreparable damage to the reputation of our town.
As a local family we have, up to now, considered ourselves extremely fortunate to live in Tenby and have always taken pride in the knowledge that our otherwise unspoilt seaside town is highly regarded as being one of the most peaceful havens of tranquillity to be found along the picturesque coastline of Pembrokeshire.
So many people living here depend heavily on tourism and the idyllic image of the peaceful, relaxing family holiday with which Tenby has always been associated is surely now being threatened by this relatively recent increase in undesirable and unwarranted behaviour.
The visitors who come to Tenby must continue to return home with the happy memory of their carefree family holiday in our quiet seaside resort and not with the unpleasant memory of a town where it can no longer be considered suitable to take that special family break.
C. Williams and J. Llama,
Saltern Caravan Park,
Marsh Road,
Tenby.
