Wales' leading drinks and hospitality company, SA Brain and Co. Ltd, has cemented its commitment to developing the business in West Wales. Mr. Christopher Brain, chairman of the company, paid a visit to the newly developed site in Whitland, on Wednesday, to officially open its flagship distribution depot in the west. Members of the board, staff and guests were on site as the chairman unveiled a Welsh slate plaque, etched with the iconic Brains dragon logo, to mark the occasion. Speaking at the official launch, Mr. Christopher Brain said: "I am delighted to officially open the Whitland site, which we believe will form the basis of our operation in West Wales. West Wales is an increasingly important trading area for our business and we're keen to further develop the business in this area, which is why we have invested a lot of man hours and money into the development of the site. "With excellent transport links to outlying West Wales towns, the depot is perfectly placed to help service our extensive retail business across South West Wales, which includes our public house estate. In addition it will be fundamental in further improving our service to the numerous free trade customers in the region" The site was made available by Whitland Green Business Park Ltd, a company created by South Wales property developer Dovey Estates to revitalise the 18-acre former Dairy Crest creamery complex which it acquired three years ago. Mike Baroth, director of Whitland Green Business Park, said: "This is excellent news for the region as a whole, and the former creamery site in particular. Brains is one of Wales' most prestigious companies and its presence at Whitland Green Business Park will help us advance the remaining employment, community space and residential elements we would like to bring to the area." The £1m development, which was made possible with Welsh Assembly Government and Carmarthenshire County Council support, boasts a more centralised, streamlined, customer service driven operation. First class office and depot facilities, based around energy efficient systems, have improved working conditions for personnel employed at the site, whilst helping to protect the environment. Locals living in the area are invited to attend an open evening at the depot on Friday, June 29. Staff will be on hand to take interested residents on a tour of the depot between 6 and 8 pm. Anyone interested can contact the depot on 01994 242220.
