Tenby Round Table have refused to have their spirits dampened by the weather and have hailed last Sunday's second Spectacular another success. Torrential rain during the evening meant that the Tablers had to pull the plug early on the second of their two annual Tenby Harbour extravanganzas to raise money for local charities. While the music from Beach Boys sound-alike headline band Kacomo was Californian, the weather was definitely not when, just two songs into their first set of the evening, the heavens opened. While the group gamely played on to the few budding Gene Kellys splashing around the harbour arena, Tablers reluctantly took the decision to abandon the rest of the event, including the spectacular firework display by Joe Cameron, of Firework Effects, planned to round off the evening. Always one of the highlights of the summer entertainment scene in Pembrokeshire, Tablers had enjoyed a very successful event two weeks ago and last Sunday's served up another day packed full of fun for all the family. The line-up for the day had already seen the crowds of young and old alike delighted by Mike the Magician, a traditional Punch and Judy show, on stage performances from Oakwood's entertainers and the Bradley Bear show courtesy of the event's main sponsors Kiln Park, Tenby Coastguard and Tenby RLNI displaying their impressive rescue skills, and what many have hailed as one of the best displays of impossible aerial stunts above the natural amphitheatre of the North Bay by the daring Kiln Park Aerobatic Display pilot. Local DJ, Wacky Wayne Wharton, had been on hand throughout the day to keep the party atmosphere bubbling, while local stars, Mustard Mitt, had already taken the event up another gear with a superb first set out of two planned for the evening. As well as the entertainment, the range of side shows and stalls managed by local charities, bouncy castle, face-painting balloon modelling, bucking bronco, the Coca Cola Football roadshow, refreshments including burger stalls, pig roasts and licensed bar had done brisk business throughout the day. "The two spectaculars are Tenby Round Table's main fund-raising events during the year, enabling us to support a wide range of good causes," said Tenby Round Table chairman, Dave Randall. "Unfortunately, while we can organise everything else, we can't organise the weather," he smiled. 'The crowds had kept us busy all afternoon up to the rain, but with the forecast giving little hope of it clearing up, we decided that we couldn't carry on. "Not only was it too wet, the low cloud meant that, even if we had tried to set the fireworks off, it was unlikely they would have been seen, which was a shame because Joe always makes one of our displays that extra bit special. Dave added that his fellow Tablers were not too disheartened by having to call the event off early. "We've had glorious weather at both spectaculars for the last three years, and at the first one this year, so the law of averages was going to catch up with us sooner or later," he said. "On the bright side, it wasn't a total washout, we were up and running for some five hours before the rain, while the financial and physical contributions towards staging the Spectaculars we received and the outstanding support from visitors and locals alike at both spectaculars have meant that, while we may not quite have another bonanza year this year, we will still be able to put quite a substantial amount in the coffers to assist local charities. "As chairman, I would like to thank fellow Tablers past and present, 'honorary' Tablers - both male and female - and everyone else who was involved in any way in helping Tenby Round Table make the event such a success," Dave concluded.
