Tenby Rabbits held their annual competition for the Duffy Cup and Joe S. Williams Shield on Sunday.

This is a unique day for the Rabbits, as it is the only medal competition in their calendar, and what's more, there's also the chance to win two trophies in one round.

The Duffy Cup is awarded for the best net score on the day, with the Joe S. Williams Shield going to the player with the best gross.

Some 12 golfers assembled on what was a truly horrible morning and it was looking doubtful as to whether they would play, but yet again the 'shortcast' from captain Mark Edwards was spot on.

Teeing-off at 9.30 am, it was cold and almost dry. Mind you, it was blowing a hoolie and by the time everyone got back to the clubhouse, they had experienced just about every kind of weather condition known to man.

Nonetheless, all 12 started, but it wasn't long before they were down to 11, with Terry Davies doing his best to lose a whole box of Srixons on the first hole. I guess somedays you just can't whack it, and on this occasion just the one hole was enough - well nearly one hole, for after losing two balls and after 11 hits, no putter was required and off he trudged back down the 18th. Ain't golf brilliant, eh.

A similar story was heard of Juan Cruz. This time, though, he got a bit further, well 10 holes further, before the dreaded duffers hit. Apparently, he had so many attempts to get the shot right, that he did eventually, with the perfect duff being witnessed!

Nice to see the captain in good form, singing that is, a Scissor Sisters hit about dancing. Obviously he's got the shoes back that he doesn't like, yes the dancing shoes!

Despite all this, there was some decent golf out there in some tricky conditions and, more often than not, form hits you when you least expect it.

This time it was the turn of ex-captain Chris Smith, who shot a pretty respectable gross 90 - not bad on such a day, and this was only one shot better than Dafydd Evans, who himself put together a decent 91 gross.

Now that's when golf can hurt, thinking of that wedge you left short or that putt you missed, but that's why we love the game.

So the Joe S. Williams for best gross was Chris's, but that wasn't all, there was still the Duffy Cup for best net score and again it was that man Dafydd who came close with a net 74, beating Paul Davies on the back nine.

But it was that man Smith again who came out on top with a fine net score of 69, giving him both honours for the day, along with a handicap cut to 20.

Also smiling was captain Mark Edwards, who bagged the only two of the day after keeping his dancing feet still long enough to achieve it on the 12th. As a result, he picked up a tidy sum from the twos kitty, which had rolled over from the winter league.
