In October 2008, consultant clinical oncologist Dr. El-Sharkawi, who has since retired, and his team at Singleton Hospital, Swansea, successfully treated David Usher, previously from Wolverhampton, but now living in Pembroke, for cancer of the tonsil and lymph nodes.
Over the years, David's Mum and Dad, Jim and Edie Usher, have never forgotten the amazing team at Singleton Hospital who helped their son.
On their 50th wedding anniversary Jim and Edie renewed their wedding vows. Instead of gifts they asked friends and family to make donations to the Breast Care Service at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, where Edie had previously been treated, and to the Oncology Unit at Singleton Hospital, where David had his treatment.
Over £1,700 was raised and a cheque for £870 was received by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg consultant clinical oncologist, Dr. Martin Rolles, on behalf of the Singleton Oncology Unit.
Martin Rolles said: "This is a lovely gesture and a very generous donation.
"It is a thoughtful and touching tribute to the staff who treated Mr. Usher in 2008. Because of their care and skill he is well and is enjoying life.
"We are thrilled with his recovery."
