The Tenby, Manorbier and St. Govans Coastguard Teams were alerted at 5.35 pm on Sunday, following a report from Dyfed Powys Police that a male and a black Labrador were on the cliffs approx 50-foot above the sea between Wisemans Bridge and Amroth. On arrival at the scene, Coastguards discovered that 'Ebony', a black Labrador, had been walking, off a lead, on the beach with his two elderly owners, when his nose got the better of him and he scrambled up the cliffs after some unseen tasty morsel. At about 50ft up from the beach, 'Ebony' decided enough was enough and stubbornly refused to budge. Unfortunately, his owner decided to climb up a small path to try and persuade the dog back down to terra firma, but again the dog refused and so the coastguard teams went into rescue mode. Because daylight had finally faded out, lighting of the scene was vital. For this purpose, the RNLI all- weather lifeboat from Tenby, the Haydn Miller, was called and attended, lighting the area up with their powerful search lights. The owner finally came down from the cliff and was guided off the beach before the tide cut him off. It was decided to coax 'Ebony' back down the cliff and two of the coastguard cliff team were lowered over the cliff to his position. From there 'Ebony' and the two rescuers scrambled down through the dense undergrowth to the beach, where they had a wet wade to the awaiting RNLI inshore lifeboat. After their trip on the lifeboat, 'Ebony' and the intrepid duo were finally put ashore at Amroth, where two very relieved, local, owners were reunited with a wet, but extremely happy tail- wagging pet. Following 'Ebony's' escapades on the cliffs, the following day, on Monday, at 1.45 pm, 'Miffy', a Jack Russell Terrier, decided to try her luck on the scrubby cliffs above Coppet Hall Beach. Again the coastguard teams from Tenby and Manorbier were called out and attended the scene, where they found that the little white terrier had managed to get onto a precarious overhang some 10-foot down a 60-foot cliff. The cliff rescue ropes and gear were deployed and two coastguards, equipped with an animal rescue bag, descended, clearing the thick bush as they went with machetes. 'Miffy' was very pleased to see them and almost lost her balance in her excitement. She was calmed down and took a liking to one of the team, for she snuggled into his arms while he was lowered back down the cliff. 'Miffy' was soon reunited with her doting local owners.
