As part of the RNLI's new lifeguard fund-raising campaign, 'Life first', the charity has launched an on-line brainwave game and is asking people to log on to see if they are capable of challenging the charity's own lifeguards. The game, which can be found on the campaign website http://www.rnli.org.uk/lifefirst">www.rnli.org.uk/lifefirst, has a series of different brain challenging games giving people the opportunity to see if they can beat the scores of real RNLI lifeguards. RNLI lifeguard supervisor Sandi Hill said: "The brainwave game is a fantastic way to challenge your friends and family and is great fun, but the message behind this game and the Life first campaign itself is that with more and more people visiting beaches in Wales, it is becoming even more important that lifeguards are available to help keep people safe. "As RNLI lifeguards, we receive a high quality of training, we have the latest lifesaving equipment and work closely with the RNLI lifeboat crews in order to ensure the charity is providing a rescue service from the beach to the open sea." She added: "This game aims to create an awareness of the campaign but also allows people to see if they have the 'brainwave' power to beat the RNLI lifeguards. We would encourage everyone to log on and remember when you're deciding where to go for the day, make sure you put Life first and choose a lifeguarded beach." Every year thousands of people get into difficulties on UK beaches. In 2001, the RNLI started to provide lifeguard cover on UK beaches in response to the changes in the way people use the sea. Since then the RNLI has expanded its service and this year the charity will be providing lifeguard cover to local authorities in England and Wales, totalling over 100 beaches. The charity is hoping to reach a-quarter-of-a- million people through the new game and this will compliment other activities throughout the life of the campaign.
