OUSTANDING dancers, razor-sharp choreography, captivating music and dramatic design all feature in an exciting double bill of dance performed by Diversions - the Dance Company of Wales - at the Torch Theatre on Wednesday, February 26, at 7.30 pm, with a Dance Explorer interactive matinee on Thursday, February 27, at 1.30 pm.
The performance kicks off with new dance by award-winning Finnish choreographer Tommi Kitti. 'Five Beginnings' is a simply beautiful piece of dance which balances delicate and intimate solos and duets with flowing and lyrical sections for the whole company. This atmospheric production conjures up the cool tranquility of the choreographer's native Finland.
Diversions also performs the latest piece by artistic director Roy Campbell-Moore 'Tough Love'. Played out against the iconic music of Janis Joplin, 'Tough Love' dives headlong into the emotional turmoil of love, passion, joy and pain. Campbell-Moore's recent hit productions for the company include 'Etch' (2001) and 'Constellation' (2000).
Formed in 1983 by directors Roy Campbell-Moore and Ann Sholem, Diversions has achieved national and international recognition through its extensive touring both in Britain and overseas. The company begins its 20th anniversary year on an artistic and creative high, following its most successful touring season ever and a series of performances at the Tokyo International Festival. This performance marks their only appearance in Pembrokeshire during 2003.
Escape into a world of imaginative, inspiring and irresistible dance.
'Dance Explorer', meanwhile, is an interactive performance for schools which gives a glimpse at the work which goes on behind the scenes at Diversions. The first half combines an exhibition of company class with a demonstration of the rehearsal techniques the company uses to create new productions. During the second half, Diversions perform their latest production, 'Tough Love'. The performance will end with a question and answer session with the dancers.
Tickets for the Wednesday night performance are priced at £9 (£7), while for the Thursday matinee performance all tickets are £5. Tel. the Torch box office on 01646 695267.
