Sir,
As a regular weekend visitor, I am writing to you to express my disappointment and dismay at the decline of Tenby. I will illustrate with a few examples.
Last weekend I walked the length of South Beach and saw only one rubbish bin, situated close to the way onto the beach from the South Beach car park. As someone who will pick up non-biodegradable detritus, such as discarded fishing line; plastic bottles, rope, etc; broken glass and other such items, it is a real disincentive to have such a limited supply of bins.
There was also the carcass of a dead dolphin lying on the beach, which had clearly been there for some time. It was decomposing and an obvious health hazard to the dogs and children who were attracted to it.
There is a noticeable increase in the amount of dog faeces, both on the beach and around the town. The bags to pick up that were provided are no longer available, exacerbating the problem.
All toilets now charge an exorbitant 20p, with no discernible improvement in quality of the facility. A bench in the harbour was only half painted.
I understand that someone (whose authority seems to stem from his title of village idiot) has decreed that the Caldey Island boats will only sail from Monday to Thursday. What madness is this to deprive the weekend visitor access to such a tranquil island and the sailors a substantial portion of their income?
All this points to a change for the worse in the welcome that I am sure Tenby would wish to extend to its visitors.
