Recently, Kilgetty Cricket Club held their annual cricket dinner at The Cartwheel Restaurant, Amroth. After an absolutely sumptuous meal, MC for the evening, Brian Slate, thanked the caterers. He then bowled his audience over with his sparkling wit, instead of his normal astute spin bowling! A welcome speech was made by chairman, Ted George, who thanked the guests (Kelly, Caroline and Debbie), sponsors and players for their attendance and support during the season. He then congratulated the First XI on their promotion to Division Three, under the skilled guidance of captain Graham Jenkins. He informed the diners that both batting and bowling awards for Division Four were won by Kilgetty players, Graham with his knock of 125 against Lamphey at the start of the season and Richard Prout with figures of 8 for 24 at Pembroke. He especially welcomed Richard back to the fold after many years away. He went on to commend the Second XI, together with the Under 13s, 11s and 9s, for each having excellent and enjoyable seasons. Presentations were then made by the chairman for the Players Player of the Year, to Anthony Bevan (firsts) and Robbie Beynon (seconds). The award for most league wickets was won by Anthony Bevan (firsts) with 32 wickets and Robbie Beynon (seconds) with 18 wickets. The Michael James Memorial Award for most runs scored in league cricket is annually donated and presented by Colin Williams. The first team winner with 567 runs was Graham Jenkins, with the second team winner for 288 runs being Richie Gwyther. The final presentation for the evening was for most improved youth player and this was presented to Alan Townsend by Graham Jenkins. A special poem was read by Allen Hurst to mark the occasion of the retirement of long-serving player, Adge John. The poem was written by Allen and suitably embellished into a framed memento. While the poem included many humorous memories of Adge playing village cricket over the years, everyone seriously wishes Adge a long and happy retirement from the sport he so loves so much. It is hoped to see him supporting Kilgetty in the future.
