Pictured celebrating their diamond wedding, recently, are Ivan and Mary Sambrook, of Pentlepoir.

The couple, originally from Wolverhampton, are toasting 60 years of marriage this year, and Ivan explained how they first met.

"Mary and I first met in 1940, but it was not until about six months later that I plucked up the courage to ask her out, and then only after a lucky incident," he said.

"I went to the local cinema and by chance sat next to Mary, and after the show I suggested that I walk her home because of the blackout. She agreed, and again using the blackout as an excuse, I put her arm through mine - it just seemed the right thing to do.

"The next day, I asked Mary if she would go out with me, and I am still very happy that she said yes," he added.

Ivan and Mary were married in 1944, when the war was eventually over and things had got back to some normality

"We moved home a few times, and came to Tenby for a holiday and liked it. With our son and and his family already living in the area, we decided to move to Pentlepoir," continued Ivan.

"Life was good until Mary became too ill for me to look after, so now she is residing in the Belvedere, where we thank Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and their staff for the wonderful job they are doing."
