Robin, who was born overseas, was in the Marines on board the Fleet Air Arm carriers during the Second World War, while Hedwig became a nurse.

Robin married the beautiful Scandinavian-born Hedwig in 1950, in Nottingham. He was deputy in three coal mines before studying mining engineering in college. He then led the hydro-electrics during the construction of the Llyn Brianne dam at Llandovery, as well as settling in Ammanford with the family for a short while in retail business.

They have lived in Pembrokeshire for almost 20 years and have two children, Sue and Nan, and five grandchildren, Hannah, Rowan, Sonny, Tommy and Hattie.

Rob and Hedy, as they are known to friends and family, have had a fascinating and colourful family history and life and will be celebrating with their telegram from HM The Queen and a family get-together with traditional foods.
