CONGRATULATIONS to Hiram and Edith Hughes, of Mount Sette, White Hill, Cresselly, who next week will be celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary. The couple will be joined by their family for the 60 years of marriage celebrations on the Sunday following the big day on Thursday, when a service will be held at Pigah Baptist Chapel where they were married back in 1948. After the service, they will all enjoy a special lunch at Lamphey Court Hotel. Edith is a native of Cresswell Quay, while Hiram hails from Treharris in Merthyr Tydfil. They met during the war years at a dance held at Carew Aerodrome. Hiram was stationed there with the RAF at the end of 1943, while at the time Edith was working in Tenby at Garrett Stores. After they married, the couple lived in Windsor for nine years, near Slough, where Hiram worked in engineering. "As we were neighbours of the Queen for a period of time, I hope she remembers to send us a message for our anniversary," laughed Edith. The couple moved back to Pembrokeshire in 1957 to the bungalow where they still live in White Hill and Hiram worked for Cleveland in the area until he retired. They have twin daughters, Jane, who lives in Boxton, Derbyshire, and Susan, who lives in Dockingfield, Cheshire, with her family. They have three grandchildren, Hannah, Naomi and Iwan.
