The Laugharne, St. Clears,?Whitland and surrounding areas Dementia Friends Action Group has been recently formed to raise dementia awareness in our communities.
Carmarthenshire County Council, Hywel Dda Health Board and Dyfed Powys Police, together with local GP surgeries and voluntary groups, are working together to support the Alzheimer Society’s Dementia Friends initiative, with the ultimate aim to register the area with the society as Dementia Friendly Communities.
A Dementia Friend is someone who has attended a one-hour information session and is committed to making the lives of people living in their community with dementia a little bit better. Anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend and every action counts - from helping someone find the right bus to spreading the word about dementia on social media or within the community.
A number of successful Dementia Friends sessions have been held in the area, with the most recent being this week at the Hywel Dda Interpretive Centre in Whitland. It was attended by six lovely ladies who all said that they found the session both informative and fun.
