Crymych retained the Gareth Edwards Memorial Trophy by outscoring the visitors from Narberth with a try ratio of three to one in the annual Boxing Day fixture.

Crymych built up a vital lead in the first half with two tries by number eight Cennydd James, one of which was converted by outside-half Gareth Davies who also added a penalty.

Narberth replied in the first half with a penalty by outside-half Richard Morris.

In the second half, both teams continued to endeavour to play attractive rugby despite the slippery and slithery conditions. Cennydd James crossed for an unconverted try for Crymych to claim a well earned hat-trick of tries, while Narberth centre Dafydd Evans touched down for an unconverted try for the Otters.

It was a deserved success for the Crymych players who appeared to be hungrier for a win on the day, although the Narberth players also played their part in entertaining the large crowd at the Crymych ground.

Crymych prop Robert Davies was nominated man-of-the-match. It was an excellent team performance by Crymych. For the Otters, blindside flanker John Edwards was a livewire despite the muddy conditions and Geraint Beynon made a number of exciting runs on the wing.

The presentation of the man-of-the-match award was made by Mr. Neil Edwards representing the Edwards family and Crymych chairman Brian Davies presented the Crymych team with the trophy.

Narberth will be keen to gain revenge when the trophy is up for grabs again next season when the match will be played in Narberth on Boxing Day.
