Deer Park Baptist Church, Tenby, would like to thank Pembrokeshire people for helping them raise £750 for Daniels House Orphanage in Uganda, this summer.

Daniel's House Orphanage was built by Go International Foundation GIF (UK). GIF was founded by members of Jerusalem Baptist Church, Briton Ferry, Neath, with the support of members of Clevedon Methodist Church, Clevedon. The work of GIF has so far been concentrated in Muyenga, Bukasa, on the outskirts of the Ugandan capital Kampala, where Cornerstone Parents School, Daniels House Orphanage and Maranatha Clinic have been built.

In January 2006, the child sponsorship programme was extended to Kalule village, where 10 children are now receiving sponsorship.

People of Deer Park Church regularly support Daniel's House Orphanage, through gifts as a church, via Helping Hands window cleaning service, and by personal sponsorship of the children. This year they wanted to find new methods of raising funds for the orphanage by engaging the local community.

Billy and Rhonwen Evans organised table-top sales in the church hall where local people gathered on Thursday mornings of the summer holidays. During the Bank Holiday week, the remaining items for sale were taken to Saundersfoot car boot sale and a total of £500-plus was raised.

Additional gifts came in as a result of a special Ugandan service, which was held at Deer Park on August 20. The service was led by Keith Evans and a group of people from Neath and Clevedon, who visited the orphanage last January. The group shared their experiences of how God was working in Uganda, and how the Ugandan people that they met were so positive, despite their poverty.

During the presentation, a video was shown of the children receiving book marks, made by Mr. Gerald Duffett.

"The children gathered round with excitement as the bookmarks were handed out. Their joy on receiving the bookmarks was very moving, such simple things brought such pleasure to the children. Our hope is to bring comfort and love to these children and to Edith, the lady who runs the orphanage," said Rhonwen, from Deer Park.

"We as a church want to offer our thanks to everyone who has supported us in raising funds for Daniel's House. We know your gifts will help build a better future for the children," added Billy Evans.

Deer Park plan to run regular fund-raising events for the orphanage on Thursday mornings during school holidays, from 10 am - 12 noon in the church hall.
