Members and local friends of the church were joined by several visitors despite the colder weather. They were welcomed at the door by Mr. Gerald Duffett, with an especial welcome given to the Rev. Robert Farrell and his wife Bridget by the church secretary. Robert had recently returned from America and is an author of several Christian books. The service continued with a story/drama by the Junior Church which illustrated the story of the feeding of the five thousand by Jesus; this was linked to the work of the British Missionary Society. The worship was led by Miss Sue Lawdon and the prayer time by Mr. Billy Evans. The theme of Robert's sermon was based on the familiar story of Ruth found in the Old Testament, in which he focused on the passionate love of the two main characters, Ruth and Boaz, which illustrated the love of God for his people. This was also illustrated in another Old Testament book, 'The Song of Songs.' After the service, many enjoyed a lunch in the church hall.
